Oxford Grade 5 Mathematics courses (New Countdown and New Syllabus Primary Mathematics) aim to build strong foundational skills in number sense, geometry, measurement, and data handling while encouraging logical problem-solving and critical thinking through real-world applications.
Course Outline
The core objectives are categorized into the following key strands:
- Numbers and Arithmetic Operations: Master place value up to 8-digit numbers, perform the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), and simplify expressions using the BODMAS rule.
- Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages: Understand and calculate HCF/LCM, add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions/mixed numbers, and convert seamlessly between fractions, decimals, and percentage.
- Measurement: Calculate distance, time, and temperature, and solve real-life problems using the unitary method.
- Geometry and Area: Understand angles, parallel/perpendicular lines, symmetry, and grid references. Calculate the perimeter and area of composite shapes.
- Data Handling: Collect, organize, and interpret data using tables, bar graphs, and pie charts.
