Three ways to take it

AS Level (choose one pair)

Papers 1 + 2 (pure only — cannot lead on to A Level), or 1 + 4 (pure + Mechanics), or 1 + 5 (pure + Statistics).

A Level with Mechanics

Papers 1, 3, 4 and 5 — popular with Physics and engineering students.

A Level with Statistics

Papers 1, 3, 5 and 6 — popular with Biology, Economics and Psychology students.

All papers are written exams marked by Cambridge. A scientific calculator is expected in every paper, and the list of formulae and statistical tables (MF19) is supplied.

Grades

AS Level: a, b, c, d, e. Full A Level: A*, A, B, C, D, E. 'Ungraded' means below the lowest grade and is not shown on the certificate.

Minimum weighted marks out of 250 in June 2026. The range is wide because each paper variant (and the Mechanics or Statistics route) has its own boundaries. For AS Level alone (out of 125) an 'a' needed about 98–107.

Engineering, computer science, economics and physics degrees usually ask for an A or A* in Mathematics. Maths A* boundaries are high — accuracy is everything.
