About this course
This course prepares students for the Cambridge O Level Islamiyat examination (Syllabus 2058). Students will develop an understanding of the major beliefs of Islam and the early history of the Islamic community, building knowledge of the main elements of Islamic faith and history through study of the Qur'an, Hadith, the life of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), and the Rightly Guided Caliphs. Students will evaluate the meaning and importance of these elements in the lives and thoughts of Muslims. Some familiarity with passages from the Qur'an and Hadith in Arabic is assumed. Ideal for students in Grades 9–10 seeking a rigorous, internationally recognised qualification in Islamic Studies.

• Introduction to Cambridge O Level Islamiyat (Syllabus 2058)
• Examination Structure — Paper 1 and Paper 2, each covering distinct topics of Islamic faith and history
Paper 1
• Major Themes of the Qur'an — key teachings and subject matter of the Qur'an
• The History and Importance of the Qur'an — its revelation, compilation and significance for Muslims
• The Life and Importance of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) — main events from his birth to prophethood, his time in Makka and Madina, his character and conduct, and his significance as the Seal of the Prophets
• The First Islamic Community — the Prophet's wives, descendants, leading Companions, the Ten Blessed Companions, the Emigrants and Helpers
Paper 2
• Major Teachings in the Hadiths of the Prophet — key Hadiths and their lessons for Muslim life
• The History and Importance of the Hadiths — their collection, compilation and role in Islamic law and practice
• The Period of Rule of the Rightly Guided Caliphs — the main events, policies and achievements of Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman and Ali, and their importance as models of leadership
• The Articles of Faith and the Pillars of Islam — the Six Articles of Faith (God, angels, books, prophets, predestination, the Day of Resurrection), the concept of Jihad, and the Five Pillars of Islam (Shahada, Salat, Zakat, Sawm, Hajj)
• Past Paper Practice — Paper 1 and Paper 2 timed exercises and model answers
