The primary objectives of the Cambridge O Level Additional Mathematics (4037) course are to enable students to build foundational pure math skills, apply techniques to solve multi-step problems, and bridge the gap smoothly into Advanced Level mathematics or related technical subjects
Course Outline
General Aims & Goals
- Fluency and Confidence: Strengthen core skills in algebraic manipulation and exact-value reasoning.
- Connection of Concepts: Help learners see internal links between different branches of pure math like algebra, geometry, and calculus.
- Logical Thinking: Train students to analyze data, interpret contexts, and communicate clear mathematical arguments.
- A-Level Readiness: Prepare high-achieving students for the transition to Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics.
Assessment Objectives (AOs)
- AO1: Knowledge and Understanding (45–55% weight): Recall, select, and use accurate mathematical techniques and definitions in both non-calculator and calculator settings.
- AO2: Analysis, Interpretation, and Communication (45–55% weight): Interpret data, structure mathematical proofs or multi-stage problem solutions, and communicate reasoning clearly.
